About the Summer Ball
In June each year the Jane Austen Festival holds a delightful Summer Ball, outside of and separate to the main Jane Austen Festival in September. Tickets for the Ball generally include entrance, the dancing, entertainment, and a light supper.
There is normally a dance workshop earlier in the day for people to brush up on their Regency dancing moves, and possibly some other smaller events over the same day/weekend.
In 2025 we will be holding two Summer Balls to give as much opportunity to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Jane Austen's birth as possible. Keep reading to find out more, and to discover other events taking place around the Summer Balls.
Ball tickets went on general sale on Friday 7th February 2025 at 13:00 GMT........and SOLD OUT by 13:10 GMT > other event tickets for those two weekends are still available to book

- Singing with Jane Austen - Persuasion Style! > 10:00 - 11:30
Join the Regency Rum Bluffers for one of our popular group workshops where we enjoy singing music mainly from The Austen family music archive. We will be teaching by ear, so no prior musical skills will be needed. For this session there will be a definite flavour of Persuasion, and for extra fun we will challenge you with a similarly themed quiz. The last session's participants were far too successful, so we may make it a little more challenging!

Join Chris from the Historical Maritime Society for his talk & presentation following a local man’s story in his role as surgeon on board a naval ship during Jane Austen’s lifetime.

Pre - Ball Dance Workshop > 14:00 - 15:30
This Regency dance workshop is only for those attending the evening's Persuasion Summer Ball. This is your opportunity to learn and practice some Regency dance moves ahead of the ball. Attendance is highly recommended if this if your first experience of a Regency ballroom.

The May 2025 edition of our Jane Austen Festival Summer Ball will take place in Bath’s historic Guildhall on Saturday 31st May 2025. For this Regency Ball we will be having a nautical theme, in honour of Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion.
This Ball is a costumed event and we request that all ladies and gentlemen dress in the style of the Regency or late 18th Century period. If you wish to add a Persuasion or nautical-themed item to your finest Regency outfit, time to get sewing!
Guests will be served a welcome drink of non-alcoholic Regency-style punch on arrival. A supper of savoury & sweet picnic delights will be served during the mid-evening break, followed by tea & coffee to sustain everyone throughout the dancing.

Saturday 28th June 2025 Summer Ball Events
- Costuming Sanditon - talk > 11:30 - 12:30
Join Debbie Jonkler & Diane Logel as they give you an insight into what it is like working in the film and TV industry within the costume department.
Having worked on some period dramas which no doubt you have seen, find out how they got into the industry and what the process is to make the department run smoothly. From designing, supervising, costume making and being on set there's so much more going on behind the scenes to appreciate.
