Jane Austen at Home (with Lucy Worsley)
Some of our guides, and we're sure other Austen/history fans, have been enjoying watching Lucy Worlsey's new series British History's Biggest Fibs with Lucy Worlsey, and considering how good Lucy is at uncovering the unusual facts and anecdotes that bring history to life, at the Jane Austen News we were very excited to read that her new book Jane Austen at Home: A Biography, has its official UK release date on May the 18th (US release July 11th).
In this new biography of Jane Austen, Lucy takes a trip back to Jane's world and the many places she lived. Lucy visits Austen's childhood home, her schools, her holiday accommodations, the houses - both grand and small - of the relations upon whom she was dependent, and the home she shared with her mother and sister towards the end of her life. In places like Steventon Parsonage, Godmersham Park, Chawton House and a small rented house in Winchester, Lucy discovers a Jane Austen very different from the one who famously lived a 'life without incident'. Lucy examines the rooms, spaces and possessions which mattered to Jane, and the varying ways in which homes are used in her novels as both places of pleasure and as prisons. Lucy shows readers a passionate Jane Austen who fought for her freedom - a woman who refused to settle for anything less than Mr. Darcy.

Welsh Austen Fans: Win Tickets to Pride and Prejudice

The Penarth Times newspaper has teamed up with the Wales Millennium Centre to offer one lucky person the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Pride and Prejudice.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s production of Pride and Prejudice, which recently visited Bath (during which time some of the cast came to see us at the centre!), will be at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre from Tuesday, February 21st to Saturday, February 25th. To celebrate the newspaper is offering any reader within its area of publication two tickets for the opening night on February 21st.
To enter you need to answer the question: What is the name of the family with the five unmarried daughters?

What Do You Get If You Cross Austen With Panto?
The Grange Players presented a pantomime with a fairytale twist on the Jane Austen classic Pride & Prejudice this weekend (Friday February 3 to Sunday February 5). Austen Translation was full of favourite fairytale and panto characters, songs and humour – but all as part of Pride and Prejudice. The Bennet sisters became Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel & the Little Mermaid, while Mr Darcy was recast as the Beast, and Mr Bingley was Prince Charming.Rumplestiltskin stood in for Mr Collins who was after the Bennet house, along with the Wicked Witch of Wellesbourne and the dastardly cad, Pinocchio. Co-writer and director Gideon Wilkins said of the production: “We have had great fun working with Austen’s story of pride, pomp, bias and assumptions, all mingled in with princes, dragons, witches and pantomime dames.”
Jane Austen Notes Still On The Loose
Two of the four £5 notes which have been engraved with miniature portraits of Jane Austen are still on the loose somewhere in 
the UK and Northern Ireland.
the UK and Northern Ireland.Two of the four have already been found: one was the note set into circulation in Scotland and the other was in Wales, but the other two are yet to be discovered, and they are worth finding. Each is worth £50,000. However, both of the notes which have been found so far are with people who want to keep them as art.
If you're not sure if you'll be able to see the tiny engraving by Graham Short then you can also check the serial number of the note. The missing notes are AM32 885552 and AM32 885554. Time to check your wallets again! If you do find you have the note, then contact The Tony Huggins-Haig Gallery in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, who launched the project with Graham Short.
Sense and Sensibility for Valentines Day
A Jon Jory adaptation of Sense and Sensibility will be playing at the Next Stage at Theatre Memphis from February 10th - February 26th, and at the Jane Austen News we think it would be the perfect outing for Valentine's Day for Jane Austen fans. Clearly the performance will be popular, because the Theatre Memphis has added Wednesday performances to the regular run for this production which would normally only run Thursdays through Sundays.

An Austen Lecture For Bridgeport Connecticut
The Housatonic Community College Women of Wisdom lectures begins its spring series on Monday, February 13th, at 2 p.m.
