Thank you Jane for all of your books, characters & your sense of humor! You have enhanced my life in so many ways! I have many Austen friends & I cherish being a part of the Jane Austen community!

Arabella Abel

I love your books. In fact, I have enjoyed them so much that I have been inspired to write 3 books of my own during the twenty-first century, in your style and times.

Claire T

Dear Miss Austen, Your writing has enriched my world and all the literary world with your wit, your charismatic characters and sublime storytelling. An inspiration to women and an icon to writers leaving a lasting legacy. Thank you.

Licia

Dear Jane it's not easy for me to write a letter to you especially because you wrote such witty and hunorous letters. so I will be short: thanks for all the joy you gave me in reading your books (which I have read many and many times). Thanks for for all the characters you brought in my world and for giving me still pleasure every time I begin your novels.

Julie Waldvogel

There is so much I could say to you Jane. It really comes down to the fact that your book Pride & Prejudice led me into the bookish world that I love so much today. If I hadn’t had to write that critique paper maybe I wouldn’t have read your book a second time that following summer to see if I really disliked it after I’d pulled it apart. That was the turning point and I’ve never looked back. Your irony is spot on and I love how you develop your characters. Can’t wait to visit your England one day!

HappyCatMom

Happy birthday to my favourite author, Jane Austen! Your legacy lives on and your books continue to inspire new generations of readers, writers, screenwriters, directors and actors. Your characters are so deep and real that we all know people just like them! External circumstances people live with today are so vastly different but people are the same. I have read all your books so many times and have watched every movie adaptation and TV series ever made that they inspired. Every time I re-read your work I remember why I love it so much and it takes me to a different time and place but oh so familiar characters and I always find myself chuckling at your humour and forgetting my own worries for a bit.

Jeanette

Dear Jane. Not only did you - and continue to bring joy to the world, you taught us to be ourselves- and never settle for less. I wonder what you would think of your popularity today! The world knows your name!!! Thank you.

Giuliana

Cara, amatissima zia Jane, il tuo talento, il tuo ingegno, il tuo coraggio sono una costante fonte d'ispirazione. Le pagine dei tuoi libri sono un mondo meraviglioso in cui rifugiarsi.

Kirsty

Dear Jane, thank you for inspiring so many other authors, you are the most amazing person. Your stories have stood the test of time, and are still relevant today.

Jannine H

I would toast her with a cheeky limerick that I think she would like but, perhaps, Cassandra would burn?! ;) Here's cheers to our beloved Jane Who's writings are humanity's gain Her wisdom and wit (whether life's shiny or sh%t) Ensures we read her again and again!!!

Caroline

Dear Miss Austen, thank you for writing such timeless, multi-layered and engaging stories. Your work transports the reader instantly to your time and there is something new to discover with every re-read. My favourite book is Emma and I especially enjoy the characters of Emma, Miss Bates, Mrs Elton and the entire Christmas Eve dining out debacle! Finding out recently that my grandmother made several exploring parties to Box Hill as a child (none resulted in a telling off thankfully) has increased my love of Emma. I think you're a genius.

Enne

Dear Jane, thank you so much for all you have written and published. Books full of wit, love and inspiration. You are a great woman and I wish I could have met you. Yours Enne

Jane you are so inspiring. Your books, be it on paper or film, in make any day better.

tall mom

My dearest Miss Austen, You have no idea how your writing works have impacted and continue to impact my life. Even though I first heard of you through film adaptations, I read most of your books in college, as part of my senior capstone project. You taught me that relationships are not easy but can be funny. Thank you for using the gifts the Lord gave you to the best of your abilities! I’m truly blessed to be a “Janeite”. With much respect and affection, Sam

Nia Bentham-Prince

Thank you for giving us the wit, Elizabeth Bennet, Mr Darcy, Colonel Brandon, Pemberley and a camp full of soldiers!!!

Christine Hastie

Thank you for exploring the relationships between women: sisters, family members, less close relatives, neighbours, friends, and non-friends—you got 'em all!

Maria Volkanova

Dear Jane, your work helps me find happiness and rejuvenate during the hardest days. You created the world that we all want to escape to. Love, friendship, honor, loyalty, hope, but also broken hearts and silly characters made your work so enjoyable. Your every work is a treasure and we will cherish it forever. I will admire and love your works forever.

Romana

Thank you for your words, Jane !

Ila25

Thanks for having changed my life taking my hand when I was only an adolescent and accompanying me until adulthood. If I am, now, a wise feminist is because of you who showed me how to look from another point of view the world

SìMonella

My beloved teacher, at the end of elementary school, gave me a book, my first "grown-up" book; it was "Pride and Prejudice", I was 10 years old, I started with yours, and I never stopped reading books ❣️

Ares

Dear Jane, if I may be permitted the familiarity of your given name, words are scarcely sufficient to convey the depth of gratitude I, along with countless others, feel for the wit, warmth, and wisdom of your stories. Even two centuries on, your characters live not merely in books, but in hearts and minds—vivid and beloved as ever. They are life’s quiet companions, offering empathy and solace when no other being can. Thank you for your ever-present presence. May your words and stories continue to live on, illuminating generations yet to come.

Everything I need to know about life I learned from Jane Austen.

I would ask her what she felt about being such a famous and revered figure 2 centuries after her life.

Jenny T

Dear Jane, I have turned to your novels during some difficult times. If we could chat, I would tell you how Pride & Prejudice and Mansfield Park supported and amused me while marooned on a sofa for weeks with post-radiation pain. Thank you for making me laugh and rediscovering Mary Crawford - a very forward thinking young woman. Thank you.

Dawn-Marie

Miss Austen, thank you for your wonderful collection of work. I have loved your books since I first started to read them when I was young. They have given me hope and comfort. My favourite is Persuasion. I love that you gave Anne a second chance at happiness. Your writing is exquisite and I’m sure it will bring joy to many generations to come. Again, thank you.

Your writing still sparkles and brings laughter, joy and happiness. Thank you.

Selisa Grimes

Ms. Austen, Happy 250th Birthday! Your novels have been life to me. I’m not being overly dramatic. I’ve found out what love is really like, what betrayal can do, manners and the love of reading beautiful words upon a page. You will be thrilled that we have movies all attempting to capture your writing via actors and movie sets. Your have left your novels in good hands especially in the new world. Every time I am in the company of an English person, I tell them “I am English too!” I then explain that I have all your novels and movies. lol!!! I hope they are very proud that I would want to be apart of a country that borne you. Thank you for what you have added to our lives through words. May we all add to planet earth the way that you have..

Mariana Werkhaizer

Dear Miss Austen, Thank you so much for your brilliant works, I hold all of them close to my heart! Your novels are so dear to me that I have gotten my master's degree with a thesis on their first translations to Brazilian Portuguese! Thank you so much for changing my life when I was 16!

Sigrid

Dear Miss Austen, it all started when I discovered "Pride and Prejudice" in my grandmothers bookshelf as a teenager - I immediately fell in love with your wit, your humour, your joy in making fun of others (and yourself) and your perfect storytelling. To this day, I LOVE your works, and they still make me giggle like the teenager I was. Reading your books is like revisiting an old friend and sharing a lot of inside jokes - thank you so much for everything you created!

Katherine Lucas

Jane, you are an inspiration and such a friend to me during my hardest times. I admire you immensely

Angela

Hello Jane, thanks for reminding us it’s alright to be human and for teaching us that humor really can see us through a lot. Your books are old friends and so treasured that they occupy a permanent spot on my very small nightstand. I’ll bet you are shocked to know how much all of this means to so many centuries later.

Britta

Her books are my refuge. Her words and sentences are my bridge to a better mood.

Pernilla

"Dearest Jane, I don’t think a day goes by without me thinking of you, your family and your life. The same goes for the characters in your beloved books. I am sorry, but simply writing you this note made me become a bit emotional. I want to tell you so much about how your books have inspired me through the years of my own life. Love and friendship, clever and funny wittiness, it is truly remarkable how all of this can touch one’s heart in such a way that it stays within forever. I have often dreamt about meeting you, if just for a minute to talk to you, ask you about the time you and your siblings were growing up. You mean so much to all of us, the Jane Austen Lovers all over the world and I can just hope that you know this and that it pleases you dearly. Please also let me say dearest Jane, that I am profoundly sorry that you got sick being so young and that you passed away too early. Thank You from the very bottom of my heart dear Jane. In all seriousness, THANK YOU."

Maria K.

Jane Austen and her writings have been a great inspiration and diversion in my life. Her stories reflect real life today even though they were written over two centuries ago. I can't even imagine a world without Jane Austen in it.

Kas

I would say thank you for such absorbing novels which has allowed us a peek into how Georgian women were expected to marry into money abs not just love. Jane you were an eye opener and a genius. Thank you

Joanne

We will always wonder about the unwritten books, l feel sure you had inside you. Many thanks from a grateful reader.

"Sense and Sensibility" was my degree thesis so I loved you during all my life with your sense of humor! My daughter too loves you so much and calls me Mrs Bennett!!? Thank you to be still so modern.

Georgia

Dear Jane I wish you were as popular in your lifetime as you are today. You deserve all the applause you get today and all the love you will get from the generations to come.

Margherita

Dear Jane, you are the reason why I believe in LOVE. With your books everybody can have a happy ending: it may be nothing for you but for a dreamer like me this is everything. Thank you for all the smiles, the dances and the magic regency atmosphere. I am very grateful! I love Darcy

Jackie G

"My dear Ms Austen i have read Pride and Prejudice until the pages fell out. Second favourite - Sense and Sensibility witty and funny at the same time. Wished I could have met you at a Ball to had a cup of tea together ."

Helen Bills

Thank you for showing us a way women were, thank you having women with strong identities and free thought. I am that headstrong girl who has swam against the tide and I thank you for the inspiration.

Morgan

It is a truth universally acknowledged that you, Jane, have captured the hearts and minds of so many. Clever far beyond your time, you have given women a voice both in literature and in life. I hope you know how many people you have inspired and made laugh -- two very rare and precious commodities.

Nefertytie

"Among all her remarkable characters, I find myself most connected with Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth’s strength lies in her ability to see beyond social expectations, to think independently, and to value her own judgment qualities that still resonate deeply today. She refuses to marry for convenience, even when pressured by family or tempted by wealth. Instead, she chooses dignity and mutual respect. Elizabeth taught me that a woman’s voice matters, that it’s possible to be kind yet assertive, and that love grounded in equality is worth waiting for. Like her, I strive to question norms, to keep my mind open, and to walk through the world with both curiosity and conviction."

Ted

I would thank her for coming into my life when I opened Pride and Prejudice for the first time at the age of 14 at the convent where I went to school. She transformed my life as I read aloud the first chapters. I have read her books a thousand times, seen countless adaptations of plays and films and even based my 50th birthday party on everything from 1775 including making bonnets. Her humour, her comedy genius, her understanding of human nature was so clever for that time. If I could invite anyone to take a stroll around the room it would be her.

Gokce Atac

"Two and a half centuries later, your words still feel like whispers from a dear friend. You taught us that wit can be graceful, that love should never cost one’s pride, and that character matters more than fortune. Your heroines live on, bold and bright, reminding us to speak our minds and follow our hearts. Thank you, Jane, for the worlds you gave us — and for the honesty wrapped in elegance. With admiration, Gokce"

MY HERO, JANE AUSTEN

Pride & Prejudice was my Mother’s favourite
Both in writing and on the TV
Mr Collins so funny
Little sense, little money
Sucking up to Lady Catherine de B

The story had many happy endings
With Lizzie and Jane finding wealth
And Mary and Kitty
One plain and one pretty
Have a comfortable home on my shelf

Marianne, Catherine and Emma
Headstrong women with lots of ideas
Despite all their schemes
Found life wasn’t what it seemed
But love saved them from anxiety and tears

Mansfield Park was a much darker story
Deceitful plotting and poor behaviour
The Crawfords tried their best
To wreak havoc on the rest
With Fanny Price the family’s true saviour

I identify most with Anne Elliot
A middle daughter feared past her prime
In Lyme her confidence grew
Her dream of marriage came true
A book I can read time after time

If I’d a fraction of Jane Austen’s talent
I know just how I’d spend my time
Whether sat down or on my feet
In the house or in the street
I’d write simple verses with rhythm and rhyme

Becky

You feel like a friend I understand and know.

You will always live on 🩵

I love you Jane Austen. I love your descriptions of the characters your gentleness and strength of the people you describe. They have soothed me in hours of pain and loss you have been like a member of my family but most of all I LOVE your humour so subtle and understood by me all through your novels.

God bless you Jane

Fab

Vorrei farle tante domande, conoscere i suoi pensieri, sapere più di lei e sarei curiosa di sapere che ne pensa del nostro mondo! ☺️

Susan Mascall

Not the morning blackbird, or the screeching gull, flying over BlackBerry hedge full of plump berries, or the blue blue sea could sing your praise better than me, nowhere would I rather be than between the pages of your books.

Rosie Richardson

Dear Jane, Your books are not just a masterclass in storytelling, they are powerful guides to millions of women, generation after generation.

My hope is that more young ones, (young men also), delve into your works to learn how to look deeper than the physical, and further than their circumstances, and aspire to a more meaningful life.

For a short life, you've done a grand job. There's only one Jane Austen.

Tiffany B.

Dear Jane, I am sure if you had known me during your life time you would have found me irritating and bothersome.

Yet, I adore your work, your characters, and the way you inspired so many readers and writers. You inspired me to love books.

My favorite character from your work is Mr. Knightly. He is a perfect gentleman: so good and kind and right. You could have named him Mr. Rightly.

I would have been pretty jealous of Emma if I lived in the fictional world of Highbury. Emma is my favorite book and movie. It is perfection in story form and the most delightful romance.

Well done Jane! Splendid! Thank you for bringing me joy and strength! Your stories make regular life better!

Kim Martin

Jane, you are a truly amazing woman, nobody will match you, such a shame you died so young sure you would have produced many more amazing stories

We have received so many tributes, we have had to create more tribute pages!
