Lips Pressed to Paper - A Poem of Persuasion

Deluxe Edition PersuasionLips Pressed to Paper

I am both afraid and excited

to pen  this piece of writing.

A document will now exist!

Please, this  epistle  is meant only for your eyes.

I know you will think me silly for even saying so,

but the words on this paper

contains  the weight of my love

I am besotted  with you.

These last few days have been

the definition of happiness  for me—

You are my sunshine before the sun rises,

you are  my  treasure  I will fight to keep

and you make my pulse race

any time you are near.

My love it not

fictitious  nor  capricious.

Like roses to lovers, my love is timeless

and  withers when we are apart.

Know that,  as soon as time  permits,

my feet will lead me in your direction.

Know you are precious  to me—

and that love lives within this letter.

I already long for the day

When  next  we can happily embrace.

Yours forever,

J.A.

What inspired my poem?

Captain Wentworth’s letter to Anne in Persuasion left me feeling inspired—hopeful about second chances and how a man can continue to love so deeply, even after so much time has passed. In his letter, he expressed his feelings openly, exposing his vulnerability.  I believe the heart recalls its one true love, and love can mend what was once broken.I hope the poem conveys a similar love, committed and unwavering.

Jane Austen’s Impact and Success

Jane Austen was a woman well ahead of her timebright, willful, entertaining, and a self-publishing businesswoman. The leading ladies in her novels were intelligent and in pursuit of true love, despite what social norms dictated. Her writing remains relatable to readers across all generations, and that will never fade.

Elda Pappadà, a Montreal native, holds a degree in Creative Writing from Concordia University. In 2020, she self-published her debut poetry collection, Freedom. Her previous writing contributions include an essay featured in the Concordia Undergraduate Journal of Art History. Additionally, she wrote and produced a play for the Montreal Fringe Festival.
